WE ARE THE ECONOMIC MOTOR OF VIENNA
The new U2 line extension means that Vienna’s underground network now extends almost 70 kilometres; by 2019, this is set to rise to almost 90 kilometres. Wiener Linien is working hard to make it even more comfortable and convenient for Vienna’s population to travel by public transport.
However, it is not just the people of Vienna who benefit from the improved degree of mobility brought by a comprehensive public transport network. We are also a key driving force for the local economy. So far, Wiener Linien has invested more than seven billion euros in extending the underground network; a further EUR 1.85 billion has been earmarked for investment by 2019. More than 1,000 construction and industrial companies benefited from the contract work this generated. And that translated into 24,000 new jobs.
